A Journey of Love and Reconnection
From the moment the buses departed the church at 11:00 AM sharp—with a few light-hearted reminders to avoid taking the “yellow bus” to Okun-Ajah—it was clear that this retreat would be unforgettable. Despite the heavy rainfall and flooded roads across Lekki, spirits were high as couples journeyed from Maryland, Ikeja, determined to experience something extraordinary.
Upon arrival at the serene Timeless Beach and Resort, couples were welcomed into a peaceful, love-filled environment designed to foster bonding, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
Marking a Milestone
This year’s edition was more than just another retreat—it was the 5th anniversary of the NNBCCF Couples Retreat. Five years of God’s faithfulness in nurturing, strengthening, and empowering marriages. Hosted by the vibrant Couples Fellowship of New Nations Baptist Church, the event was filled with gratitude, joy, and deep spiritual engagement.
A special highlight was the presence of Deaconess Edith Igiewe, who traveled all the way from Canada and shared heartfelt reflections on the journey of the Fellowship. Her words served as a reminder of the global impact and enduring value of this ministry.
Day 1: Laughter, Learning, and Love
The retreat officially opened with a warm welcome session led by Brother Fred Agbons, whose fun ice-breaker activities brought instant connection and laughter to the group.
The evening continued with a stirring message from Rev. Mike Babatunde, who spoke about marriage as a “period of reconnection and re-engagement,” challenging couples to rekindle love, restore communication, and renew their commitment to one another and to God.
After a delicious dinner of Semo, vegetable soup, and fried fish, participants joined breakout sessions where men and women had candid discussions on:
-
Sexual intimacy
-
Domestic responsibilities
-
Financial discipline
The breakout concluded with a joint session where couples agreed to:
-
Encourage wives to initiate sexual intimacy.
-
Share both domestic and financial responsibilities to build a balanced home.
The day wrapped up joyfully at 11:00 PM, with couples retiring to rest.
Day 2: Faith, Fitness, and Fellowship
Morning devotion was led by Deacon GreatMark, who reflected on the beauty of God’s creation and our role as stewards of it. Deaconess Ogunlari followed with a powerful prayer, asking for grace to honor God’s design and fulfill His purpose.
Next was a fun workout session led by Brother Tijesu Oladejo, followed by a hearty breakfast of yam and egg sauce.
The mid-morning teaching session, again led by Rev. Mike Babatunde, explored the theme:
“Exploring the Power of Two in Building Your Home”
Key teachings included:
-
Spiritual Reconnection: Building a strong family altar and respecting spiritual leadership from both spouses.
-
Living in Harmony: Walking in the Spirit to avoid strife (Gal. 5:15–16).
-
Facing Life’s Challenges Together
-
Raising Children with Unified Principles (Mal. 2:15, Prov. 1:8)

He concluded with warnings from Proverbs 5 & 7 about the dangers of infidelity—loss of honor, wasted resources, and personal regret.
Beach Bonding and Dinner Delight
After lunch, couples relaxed by the beachfront, enjoyed the swimming pool, and soaked in the peaceful environment.
The evening brought one of the most anticipated highlights—Couples’ Dinner Night. Dressed in gorgeous outfits, couples laughed, danced, sang karaoke, and played games, celebrating love and friendship in style.

A Divine Encounter
Throughout the weekend, couples engaged in:
-
Deep spiritual teachings
-
Fun activities

Transparent conversations
-
Focused prayer and worship
Many testified of renewed love, restored unity, and rekindled purpose in their marriages.
Gratitude and Glory
As the retreat came to a close, one truth was undeniable: God moved mightily in our midst. Hearts were touched, marriages were strengthened, and the vision was reignited.
Couples Retreat 5.0 was more than an event—it was a divine encounter. We return home with hearts full of gratitude, recommitted to building marriages that glorify God.
Cheers to 5 Years—and Many More to Come!
Here’s to stronger marriages, deeper love, and greater glory in the years ahead. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey.
